Food and beverage businesses are being held to higher safety standards every year, and those standards do not stop at the plant’s own staff. The contractor cleaning your facility is part of what an auditor is assessing, which makes their training your problem as much as theirs.
The programs we train through
We use the Global Food Safety Initiative to find collaborative solutions to common concerns and reduce food safety risks. GFSI does not certify companies itself; it recognizes certification programs that meet its benchmark. The three GFSI-recognized certifications we train through are:
- SQF
- BRCGS, formerly known as BRC
- FSSC 22000
On top of those, we train in HACCP management and GMP+ practices, and we teach the proper use of Sanitation Standard Operating Procedures. We also meet all training requirements of the OSHA standard.
Why it matters on the day
Independent auditors perform unscheduled inspections. That is the whole point of them. A sanitation program that only holds up when everyone knows the date is not a program, and a contractor who has to be briefed before every audit is a liability rather than a supplier.
Training regularly against recognized standards is how we show customers that we have done what we can to make our service the highest quality possible, and to protect your brand while we are in your building.
What to ask any contractor
Ask which GFSI-recognized programs their technicians train through, how often, and whether that training covers the specific SSOPs your plant runs. The answers will tell you quickly whether their sanitation work will survive an unannounced inspection.
