Which Industrial Cleaning Method Fits Your Job

Industrial Deep Cleaning

Most people asking for an industrial clean know what the problem looks like but not what to ask for. That is reasonable. The method names are trade jargon, and the differences between them only matter once you know the constraints.

Here is how we actually decide, and you can work through it yourself before anyone quotes.

Start with three questions

  1. What is the surface? Painted steel, bare concrete, food contact stainless, masonry, delicate control gear.
  2. What is the soil? Dry dust, grease, process residue, rust and mill scale, biological soil.
  3. What is the constraint? Downtime, water, residue near product, access, or the substrate itself.

The constraint usually decides it. The other two narrow the choice.

Dry ice blasting

Pick it when equipment cannot be dismantled, moved or wetted. The pellets turn to gas on impact, so there is no blasting media to recover, which is what makes cleaning in place possible. It is non-abrasive, non-conductive and non-toxic, so it suits machinery, control gear and surfaces you do not want reprofiled. It is the answer when downtime, not the cleaning, is the real cost.

Pressure washing and wet washing

Pick it when the substrate can take water and pressure, and the soil is heavy. Pressure washing moves fastest on hard surfaces and large areas. Wet cleaning with solutions handles soils that water alone will not lift. Both are ruled out near live electrics, around equipment that cannot get wet, and on substrates that will be damaged by the pressure.

Hand cleaning and wipe-downs

Pick it near product, on complex assemblies, and anywhere overspray or backsplash is unacceptable. It is slower per square foot and it is the only correct answer on a lot of food processing equipment. Wipe-downs are what you use on machinery that cannot get wet at all, degreasing sticky product residue off motors, conveyor belts, rollers and frames.

Pneumatic vacuuming

Pick it for dry dust, especially overhead. Industrial vacuums with HEPA filtration capture and contain the dust rather than relocating it, which matters because dust disturbed into the air is the version that causes both the respiratory problem and the explosion risk. This is the method for beams, ledges, ductwork and the tops of equipment.

Surface preparation is its own question

If the surface is about to be coated, you are not cleaning, you are preparing. That moves you onto a different scale, from needle guns and rotary scalers at the aggressive end down to hand cleaning at the other. The rule there is to use the least abrasive method that will actually do the job.

Most projects need two or three

A real deep clean rarely uses one method. A typical sequence is vacuum the dry dust first so it does not turn into slurry, then wet wash the hard surfaces, then hand clean and wipe down the equipment, then sanitize if the facility requires it. Getting that order wrong is what turns a two-day job into a four-day one.

If you are unsure, describe the surface, the soil and the constraint and we will tell you which method fits. Start with our industrial cleaning services or ask us to walk your facility.

"We had an audit coming up and we really wanted to make sure our facility was clean and ready. Recoveron was able to fit us into their schedule with little notice. Mark the Project Manager and his team were friendly and easy to work with. His team worked with us to make sure the equipment was cleaned properly and up to our companies standard. If we had any issues, which was were very few they took care of it right away. We will be working with Recoveron again in the future and possibly setting up a routine cleaning schedule."

"The team did a great job of cleaning up dust accumulating for years. We will have them back in the future!"

Joe Republic Services Hazelwood, MO

"We had some heavy dust/oil build-up on our Fresh Air intakes and Exhaust fans at the 30-foot ceiling left. Recoveron came in, blocked off the area, brushed and vacuumed the areas, and cleaned the floors when done.

Their group cleaned and painted a control room exterior and even cleaned and painted a workstation and safety barrier. They look very good.

Part of the group worked on the back wall behind the machinery, brushing and vacuuming it, making it look 100% better.
Thank you very much."

Charles Great Northern Corporation Appleton, WI

“The Recoveron team arrived on time and prepared with all of the required personal protective equipment and food safety requirements in hand. Once onsite their team was extremely self motivated, driven, and required very little oversight from our facility's resources other than general check-ins. Overall we were very impressed with the overhead pipe cleaning service that they provide. I would highly recommend their cleaning crew to any manufacturing facility needing this type of service.”

Kerry Ocean Spray Cranberries Inc. Wisconsin Rapids, WI

"OMG! Should have been done years ago. Made our Mill shine! Very professional and thorough."

Holly Door County Cooperative DBA Shirley Feed Mill Sturgeon Bay, WI

"After getting quotes from a few other companies, I chose Recoveron to perform cleaning of the ceilings, trusses, exposed piping, and walls in our production areas. We also needed additional cleaning performed around a printing press, which involved cleaning dust, chemicals, oils, and solvents. We had not cleaned these surfaces in years, and the build-up was quite heavy in some areas. Our facility has an upcoming audit scheduled for SQF certification, and it was very apparent that Andy knew exactly what needed to be done to pass the audit.

The crew arrived on time each day and did a fantastic job! They had to maneuver around many pallets and areas with little clearance. Watching the workers as they drove the boom lifts, it was evident that they were fully trained, took every safety precaution, and knew what they were doing. They never complained; they just adapted to the situation. There was clear communication between myself and the project manager, and the crew lead did a walk-thru with me at the start of each shift to ensure things were being done to my satisfaction. The price was reasonable for the magnitude of work we needed, and I am completely happy with the outcome. I would definitely recommend Recoveron!"

Patti Color Ink Sussex, WI

Jim Automated Pet Care Products, LLC Auburn Hills, MI

Good overall experience."
